Stephane Ratel was born in France on July 23rd 1963.
He attended secondary school and University in Paris, and took International Business Studies at San Diego State University. He has two children.
Stephane Ratel starts his motorsports career with the French sportscar manufacturer Venturi. As Head of Competition, he organises the “Pasha Driver Trophy by Cartier”, the largest European single-make series at the time, before heading the factory racing programme at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1993 and 1994.
From 1994 to 1996, he is a founder and partner of the BPR Endurance Series which revives GT Racing worldwide. The BPR organises the first ever international races in China in 1994.
In 1995, Stephane Ratel incorporates SRO Limited in London, initialy to promote the Lamborghini Supertrophy.
In 1997, SRO becomes the promoter of the newly launched FIA GT Championship, in partnership with Mr Bernie Ecclestone until 1999 and independently since then.
From 2001 to 2005, Stephane Ratel develops in partnership with leading sports channel Eurosport a multi-platform concept: the LG Super Racing Weekends, a combination of GT, Touring car and single seaters within the same race meetings.
2004 : Stephane Ratel works on the rapprochement between the FIA and the ACO, forming the Le Mans Endurance Series
2005 : Stephane Ratel sells his shareholding position in Super Racing Weekend to concentrate on the development of the SRO Motorsports Group, creating or taking over a number of national and international racing series.
In 2009, SRO Motorsports Group is :
o Exclusive Commercial Promoter of the FIA GT1 World Championship, FIA GT2
European Championship, FIA GT3 European Championship
o Partner with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (Organiser of the 24 Hours of Le Mans) in
the promotion of the Le Mans Series
o Partner with the ADAC (Europe’s largest Automobile Club) in the promotion of the
ADAC GT Masters (SRO - Germany)
o Promoter of the British Formula 3 Championship
o Promoter of the British GT Championship
o Promoter of the French National Circuit Championships (Super Serie FFSA – SRO
Paris)
o Promoter of the Brazil GT Championship (SRO Latin America)
o Partner in the promotion of the Belgium and Dutch GT Championships.
